BMI Top Concern

BMI top concern: coping with an uncertain future. It is now realized that a BMI is connected to future health events. Body mass index (BMI) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight. This isn’t the only measure of a healthy weight, but it is potentially a fast and easy way to tell.

Higher BMI in the teenage years is linked to earlier occurrence of diabetes and heart disease as a young adult. This is according to a study that followed 37, 000 Israeli army personnel for 17 years. The long reach of weight in the teen years seems to influence and result in the gradually increasing atherosclerosis. This narrows the arteries with plaque build-up.

The surprising thing about this study was that the results were derived from BMI scores that were still well in the normal range. What is uncertain is the way we focus on losing weight as a way to manage future health problems. This isn’t an open and shut case to turn around any future health consequences. This study suggests that becoming a lean adult will not eliminate all risks for developing diseases. While it practically eliminates the risk of developing diabetes it still leaves one with a higher risk of developing heart disease. This means that an overweight teen will have some risk even upon becoming a lean adult.

Not a Surprising Risk

This shouldn’t be surprising since a baby has an increased risk of obesity and diseases just by what the mother eats while pregnant. This now extents to the time before conception, and includes what the father’s diet is like. 

Prevention begins way before the teen years. The bigger we get the more we will act in haste to avert disaster. We need to manage risks before we have to make tough decisions. We have to change the way we think. Reflecting on the broader implications of weight management means to nourish and nurture by means of diet.

There is a direct connection to scaling back on packaged food and reverting to whole foods. We are facing key challenges while food manufacturers flex their marketing muscle. Their products boast self space, functionality and ingenuity. What they aren’t a fresh-cut above nature. For the food industry the interest is primarily in packaging and your wallet. It seems the packaging is disposable and so is the public.

There isn’t a real second chance given by loosing the extra weight. The seeds of change start with clarifying the challenge, which may not be loosing the weight as much as not putting it on in the first place.

Prevention

An international study, led by the university of Southampton researchers has shown that a mother’s diet during pregnancy can alter the function of the child’s DNA. The study shows that this process called epigenetic change, can lead to the child tending to lay down more fat.

It is recognized fact prevention is easier than recovery. In almost all chronic conditions is recognized that prevention is the key. Well in obesity the same is true. The driving force behind optimal weight should be to in place before it’s needed.

Genes Aren’t The Cause of Common Diseases

If genes aren’t the cause of common diseases, than there has to be a environmental connection. Ever since sequencing the human genome, genetic researchers have found little evidence of genetic causes to most of the common diseases. Inherited genes are not the cause of the sky rocketed growth of conditions such as heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, autism, ADHD and dementia. Nor is it the cause of depression, obesity, and metabolic  syndrome.

Genes Limited Role

The case for a substantial role of genes in susceptibility to the major human diseases has been refuted by a groundbreaking new analysis published by the public interest science organization, The Bio science Resource Project. Of the approximately 1,000 genes identified that confer susceptibility to disease only a tiny amount are of even limited importance..

“Geneticists are repeatedly finding only genes with trivial effects, but since they have a strong incentive not to declare this search over, they are left invoking unlikely hiding places for the important disease genes they have always predicted,” says Jonathan Latham, Executive Director of the Bioscience Resource Project .

The coast is clearing and the gene inquisitions may as well stop. The medical community is on the wrong path. This isn’t a game of multiple choice with the perpetual question being which gene is responsible for expanding waistlines. Ambiguity is what the medical establishment is good at. Instead of understanding the interdependence humans have with the environment, they make everything complicated.

Genes Vs. Environment

The environment to a certain degree has become a global focus. The impressive deluge of toxic residue from personal products, household cleaners, prescriptions, pesticides, and food additives become a trend that makes the planet a human clinical testing ground.

The results of the materials and new methods of farming may be the final piece in the equation. The testing before products leave the lab may not measure the effect or determine the long term impact on the citizens and the environment. Without being able to account for the impact our new way of life has on the population, genes may be the last place to look to eliminate disease states.

Dollars to donuts, it’s the donuts. From fried dough with sugar, to an array of sub-par nutritional choices we can’t blame the gene pool. The summary of our health is dependent on our lifestyle. Western diseases are overwhelmingly determined by diet and environment. Type 2 Diabetes Epidemic

Type 2 Diabetes facts are quite different from the hype. The new term is “diabesity” and it is reaching epidemic proportions. It is seen in the aging population, young adults, and youngsters. It is a combination of obesity and diabetes.

Type 2 Diabetes        

“Type 2 diabetes is a lifelong disease that develops when the pancreas cannot produce enough insulin or when the body’s tissues become resistant to insulin. Insulin is a hormone that helps the body’s cells use sugar (glucose) for energy. It also helps the body store extra sugar in muscle, fat, and liver cells.”  This is from MSM healthline.

Type 2 diabetes isn’t a disease; it’s the cumulative effect of lifestyle. This is how the body behaves under certain circumstances. If we call diabetes a disease, which it is not, we do untold damage by trying to put a bandage on it. Medication isn’t going to reverse the condition, it covers up the symptoms.

Lifestyle Factors

Type 2 diabetes isn’t a choice. The lifestyle that leads up to the condition is a choice. This is not something that people think about in that way. However, if obesity rates keep rising there will be more cases than ever before.

Drugs have not been successful in preventing and reversing type 2 diabetes. The clinical cause of diabetes isn’t going to be anything other than lifestyle. Type 2 diabetes is not an illness. The condition starts long before the actual diagnosis.

Studies have shown that type 2 diabetes can be prevented. The fact is by preventing and reversing diabetes you will stave off heart disease and cancer while protecting your brain.

Halting Diabetes

Halting diabetes isn’t as difficult as one would assume. Alternative methods work very well. Most people aren’t well informed and continue to have numerous health problems that follow this condition.

Mainstream medicine doesn’t have a clue to what this condition is, and what it takes to turn it around. All the prescriptions in the world haven’t conquered diabetes. Yet, people who changed their diet were able to not only control the condition, but reverse it.

People assume that there body is a workhorse, which goes on under any conditions. Ultimately it boils down to be the lethal effects of sucrose, and excess calories. Diabetes has become an epidemic as our diets have incorporated more fast food, processed foods, and enormous amounts of food.

The higher the glycemic the diet, the more insulin is released, this leads to inflammation. When you elevate your blood sugar, high glycemic foods promote oxygen free radical processes, Free radicals are highly reactive molecules which damage DNA, and cause inflammation.

The standard American diet is a high glycemic one, with pro-inflammatory sugars and refined carbohydrates. High glycemic diets are directly linked to most chronic conditions. The way to halt diabetes is to watch the glycemic load values of your foods. By remembering that refined foods have high values and minimally processed foods such as vegetables have low values. A whole food diet is a way to halt all chronic conditions.

Glucose

Scientists have known that diabetics have a greater incident of heart attacks, strokes, and some types of cancers. In a study released by John Hopkins University scientist, even healthy people with higher normal blood glucose levels were shown to have more cardiac events.

Excess glucose contributes to arthrosclerosis and heart disease. The point here is the people with higher normal blood glucose levels aren’t completely healthy. Our medical experts wouldn’t know healthy if they fell over it. The medical establishment uses poor guidelines to judge health.

They are disease oriented, not health generating. Studies have documented the fact that higher glucose readings put you at risk for vascular disease. Conventional medicines flawed understanding that glucose metabolism affects the whole body.

Inflammation the Real Problem

Diabetes isn’t just a disease with one dimension it is an inflammation marker. There is research that points to inflammation as a cause of diabetes. It is now thought in some scientific circles that low-grade tissue inflammation related to obesity contributes to insulin resistance, the major cause to type 2 diabetes.

Increased body fat that is associated with obesity is not the direct cause. Obesity can cause inflammation and inflammation can cause obesity. Now if we view diabetes this way we realize we need a holistic healing model to follow.

People who are obese, many times suffer from chronic inflammation and are resistant to insulin, the hormone that removes sugar from the blood and stores it as energy. An interesting point is that rheumatoid arthritis, an inflammatory disease, heightens the risk of developing insulin resistance.

So if inflammation is the cause of diabetes, this disease has to be looked at as a whole body disease. Now that changes the dynamics and the treatment plan.

Taking care of glucose levels with medication is a bandage at most, and at worst it can lead to a further decline in health. That is why people on a whole host of medications wind up with the lethal effects of diabetes anyway.

Inflammation is a major reason why people with diabetes get heart, kidney, eye disease, and cancer. Treat the inflammation with low inflammatory foods and watch the improvement.
