Functional Fitness

A post by Blanche Scharf http://www.yourhealthupdates.com

I have been studying natural healing modalities for the last 25 years. In that time I have had the privilege of working with some of the greatest minds in Natural Healing including Naturopaths, Scientists, and Energy Healers. I have seen people miraculously heal from all kinds of dis-ease thru non-invasive methods. Personally, I have experienced all kinds of diets from Macrobiotics to Raw Foods. Now is a very important time to start sharing this health information with as many people as possible, so people can make well informed decisions about their health and not fall victim to a sickcare system based on profit, rather than one of supporting wholeness, compassion and love

Functional fitness is the new brain child of the fitness industry.  What does it really mean?   It means in one sense of the word that you are fit to carry on everyday activities without stress or strain.  Functional Fitness gives us the means to carry on normal activity with ease.

Our grandparents, and their parents, had a better chance of being functionally fit than this generation.  What happened between the time we used our bodies the way they were designed to function and now?  Well, we all know too well that it has a lot to do with modern convenience, and technology.   In a world filled with couch potatoes with mouths, and digestive systems that get more of a work out than any muscle group, functional fitness becomes the battle cry of a weak and out of condition generation.

Functional Fitness is being able to have the balance, coordination, flexibility, and strength to engage in everyday activity.  As we age we loss some of our agility, coordination, and balance.  These are things that need to be used to be kept in top notch working order.  Age alone is not the only culprit, the lack of use of each and every muscle group accounts for most of the aging problems.  This is where function fitness picks up the slack.  It is training with very little gym equipment.  This is not weight, or athletic training in the true sense, it is medicine balls, light weights, jump ropes, and other similar easy to store work out equipment

It can be done indoors, or outside in a field.  The space needed for this type of conditioning can be much smaller than what is utilized for a standard gym.  This is a practical way of training because it helps you with everyday activities.  Most participants in a gym are not there for body building, but are trying to get in shape, use calories, keep fit, and enjoy movement.  It is a way to get momentum and keep going all day with more energy.  This teaches you the right way to use your body with a minimum amount of effort

The difference between this and formal gym exercises, this teaches how to use your everyday movements as workouts.  From walking up stairs, bending over to lift something, to carrying groceries every movement gives you a way to exercise.  What could be better or more practical?  This makes everyday a workout day.  There is no excuse that could be used to get out of moving your body in the right way;  it takes less time to do things the right way in the first place.  So get on the functional fitness bandwagon, and make your day.
