Health versus Science
Health versus science, is a by-product of the U.S. economy and the processed foods industry, the pharmaceutical industry, and the chemical industry. These economic interests influence our diet and health. Their products affect our lives, in many ways. It is naive to think lab-created synthetics are as benign and more effective than naturally occurring foods and healing substances.
Our indoctrination into the idea that the industrialization of our food, medicine, and health care is an improvement that enhances our life unfortunately is not totally true. The longer we believe lies promulgated by the pharmaceutical and food industry the future is open to debate. Synthetics taken both internally and externally are absorbed. More than 3,000 synthetic chemicals are added to U.S. food products, without being tested for their synergistic effects. These products can be toxic on their own, when combined can cause unforeseen consequences.
The majority of the foods in grocery stores are processed. All kinds of proprietary flavor, texture, and color enhancers are added. It definitely is not your garden-fresh food that previous generations had on their dinner plate. At least 70 percent of the processed foods in the supermarkets contain at least one genetically engineered ingredient that has never been tested for its potential harm.
Most vitamins and supplements sold in the U.S. are actually synthetic chemical concoctions that contain coal tars, preservatives, artificial colorings and a vast range of other potentially harmful additives. Just one capsule will not provide you with the recommended five to seven servings of fruits and vegetables a day. Those that take ordinary supplements may be getting a lot more then they bargained for. Using toxic mass produced vitamins that proclaim it will do you good may be grossly inflated, and ignoring the synthetic compound dangers.
More than 25,000 chemicals are in the cosmetics sold in the U.S. a percentage of these ingredients having never been tested for toxicity and safety. Shampoos and hair conditions come in a wide array of colors, with different fragrances. We are now programmed to think that this is natural, and somehow health enhancing. Though all this we are deceived into believing that we are being protected by government agencies that oversee what is on our grocery shelves.
We are engaged in a vast and complicated experiment. We are guinea pigs, testing an ever increasing arsenal of synthetic chemically enhanced food, household and personal care products. Overall our health has degenerated. At the same time, health care costs have risen; the U.S. now spends twice as much on medicine and care per person per year than any other industrialized nation in the world.
Our epidemic of obesity, diabetes, cancer, and heart disease are perhaps an unscientific indictment of a reckless pharmaceutical mentality. The incidents of Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, autoimmune conditions have more than tripled in last decades. We have health conditions such as metabolic syndrome, pre-diabetes, pre- high blood pressure, hardening of the arteries in youngsters, attention deficit, that are prevalent.
The most likely causes researchers identified were exposure to pesticides sprayed on crops, synthetic chemicals from the processed foods that we consume, and industrial chemicals used in almost every aspect of our modern lives. Prozac, Ritalin and antibiotics are common prescriptions that have turned out to have a wide range of problems with their use. In today’s culture health verses science, is being played out in our grocery stores, medical facilities, and pharmacies.
