Health Care May not Save You
Health care may not save you from your affliction. When it comes to challenging conditions with expensive treatments, health care providers find that the costs are too much for insurance companies and patients alike.
Wellness initiatives pay, treatment for everything else may one day be too expensive. Health care providers are paying a king’s ransom for treatments that make only small improvements. It isn’t affordable to add a few weeks to a few months of time. The future of a person is dependent on the accounting system. It is also, a bad decision to finance an almost worthless drug.
The debate in American medicine is based on the decided effectiveness of a procedure vs. the costs. The insurance companies are taking a critical look at costs vs. benefits. The issue of cost-effectiveness is taking center stage as more Americans become eligible for Medicare insurance, and some 30 million uninsured people are promised health coverage by 2019.
The United States spends more on health care than any other country, and as yet hasn’t done much to control the costs. Biologic drugs can cost upwards of $100,000 a year in prolonging the life of cancer patients, and for medical devices for heart patients.
The real story is they are yet to make us healthy. Pulling it off is an inside job. Health by committee isn’t going to work on any front. Financially and strategically Americans have to build their own healthy future.
The tools are available and they are a fraction of the price of medicine. We are designed for simple solutions that are focused on building us up not literally tearing us down. Information technology matters, it services the individuals who are ready to take up the lifestyle. We don’t have to get lost in the shuffle; there is provocative, insightful, information that offers practical ways to heal. The question is who’s in charge of your health.
You are part of the solution, falling into the trap that pharmaceutical companies set, which is they are the source for your health is the difference between health and wellness, and just symptom relief.
Healthcare for Americans
Healthcare for Americans is necessary.
Healthcare-Pre-Existing Conditions
Healthcare is needed for most Americans for the simply reason that about 57.2 million people under the age of 65 have a pre-existing condition. That is one in five (22.4 percent) of American’s non-elderly population-have a diagnosed pre-existing condition. This is from a recent report by the consumer health organization Families USA.
When the newly enacted health reform law is implemented, this section of the population will gain access to insurance. The new law prohibits insurance companies from denying health coverage to people that need it, those with pre-existing conditions.
Healthcare Finding New Trails
The real problem with healthcare is below the surface. With the number of pre-existing health conditions on the rise we have a huge problem. Healthcare is blazing new trails.
Nearly one in six (15.9 percent of) young adults aged 18-24 has a diagnosed pre-existing health condition.
More than one-third (35.3) of adults aged 45-54 have a diagnosed pre-existing condition.
In the 5 to 64 age group pre-existing conditions reach more than two in five that is (45.5 percent).
This amounts to tens of millions of Americans with diagnosed health conditions, and many others who will eventually join the ranks. In an analysis, Families USA indicated that the 57.2 million may underestimate how many people have pre-existing conditions. Americans who are uninsured have health conditions that may not be diagnosed.
Interesting enough is the make up of those with pre-existing conditions. It isn’t dependent on wealth, it is dependent on health.
While the lowest-income Americans are slightly more likely to be affected by pre-existing conditions, more than two-thirds (69.8 percent) are middle-class and higher-income Americans. These are families with incomes above 200 percent of poverty, or more than $44,100 for a family of four in 2010.
Healthcare Profits $
Our image is one of having the best medical care in the world. In some ways this true, we have the best in technology, and skilled surgical doctors. That is a good thing that everyone should have access to.
Profits, profits and more profits seem to be changing the face of America’s health.
What will drive the profits is the volume of people that will have access to pharmaceuticals. This is not really quality care, it is the ability to serve over 57.2 million people the same without making a real change to the nation’s health.
The Real Healthcare Revolution
A revolution is brewing that will give us access to new products and services, that will shield against arterial calcification, cancer, diabetes, and aging. Healthcare Reform;Don’t Hold Your Breath
If you are looking for real healthcare reform; don’t hold your breath. You may be doing that till the cows come home.
Health Is Not On The Agenda
Health is not on the agenda of healthcare reform. It is true health insurance may be easier to get. Yes, health insurance coverage will reach a larger segment of the population. More people will now have access to medical insurance.
If it sounds too good to be true, than it is too good to be true, there are serious problems lurking.
More coverage means more people exposed to the dark side of modern medicine.
The Reform You Need
Where is the reform that you need? At least 1.5 million Americas are sickened, injured or killed by errors in prescribing, dispensing, and taking medication. Preventable medical errors kill close to 98, 000 people in the United States each year.
Consumer Union, the nonprofit publisher of Consumer Reports magazine, said lawmakers have failed to enact patient safety reforms recommended by a 1999 report by the Institute of Medicine or IOM that found that medical errors cost the United States $17 billion to $29 billion a year.
“That translates into a million lives and billions of dollars have been lost over the past 10 years because our healthcare system failed to adopt key reforms recommended by the IOM to protect patients.
There are another 200,000 Americans that succumb to both medical mistakes and hospital infections according to the Hearst Corporation.
Healthcare Reform
The new healthcare reform is addressing this issue. The economic stimulus bill signed by Congress in February included funds to promote healthcare technology, including electronic prescribing, which can help prevent medical errors from sloppy hand writing and harmful drug interactions.
Hocus Pocus, and now you have a healthy medical system. These are not even partial solutions. The harsh reality is no one is going to fess up to the real problem. The magnitude of the problem is so much larger than electronic prescribing, and sloppy hand writing. It is not only that the health information we have is blatantly false, we are being financially raped, by becoming victims of standardized care.
