A Glimpse at American Health

Americans are not doing as well as you would think. Considering all the pharmaceutical fixes we should be a healthy nation. Another way to look at it is with all the pharmaceuticals we need we are an unhealthy nation. The arsenal of drugs grows by the year, yet health is declining. Pharmaceutical overload is what this nation is facing.

According to the numbers released by the National Center for Health Statistics on the health of Americans in the first half of 2009, a third of us are not feeling well. The percentage of people who reported having excellent or very good health has been declining.

Most American’s don’t know what well feels like. Well is not the absence of symptoms, or being able to get through the day without collapsing. Well is being able to feel amazing, and be able to joyously get through the day. Now the numbers look different.

Normal

It is open season in allopathic medicine. The hunting for disease is going to bring good yields. The supply of pre-diseases will bring a fury of pharmaceutical activity. We have gone beyond the judicious use of medication. Now we are in the assault phase. Trying to win a war by attacking something that you think may occur will produce a deadlier outcome. We are in the dawn of a new age. We have shifted our thinking to consider this normal.

Rise and Fall

The pharmaceutical industry is getting a boast from newly minted doctors, who are not resisting. These are the health care soldiers of tomorrow, who are going to lead the assault on killer diseases with one drug after another. The advances in treating have had a direct action on both a resurrection of older diseases in a new and more dangerous form, and the emergence of new and baffling conditions.

The rise of the pharmaceutical industry with the complicit help of the F.D.A. and other government entities are not creating a better world. We are in high gear at the demolition derby.

The blame for this extends to the public. We are in most part the creator of our health and have control over it, it is a hands-on task. Part of the solution is obscure by our dependence on the healthcare system. The over hyped industry that under delivers. We risk our lives by looking to an outside source to take care of an inside job.

Getting physical, not getting a physical, is what will keep you healthy. If you are pondering the healthcare overhaul you are at the wrong place in your head. The best way to equip yourself is to shoulder your own health care.
