Healthcare for Americans

Healthcare for Americans is necessary.

Healthcare-Pre-Existing Conditions

Healthcare is needed for most Americans for the simply reason that about 57.2 million people under the age of 65 have a pre-existing condition. That is one in five (22.4 percent) of American’s non-elderly population-have a diagnosed pre-existing condition. This is from a recent report by the consumer health organization Families USA.

When the newly enacted health reform law is implemented, this section of the population will gain access to insurance. The new law prohibits insurance companies from denying health coverage to people that need it, those with pre-existing conditions.

Healthcare Finding New Trails

The real problem with healthcare is below the surface. With the number of pre-existing health conditions on the rise we have a huge problem. Healthcare is blazing new trails.

Nearly one in six (15.9 percent of) young adults aged 18-24 has a diagnosed pre-existing health condition.

More than one-third (35.3) of adults aged 45-54 have a diagnosed pre-existing condition.

In the 5 to 64 age group pre-existing conditions reach more than two in five that is (45.5 percent).

This amounts to tens of millions of Americans with diagnosed health conditions, and many others who will eventually join the ranks. In an analysis, Families USA indicated that the 57.2 million may underestimate how many people have pre-existing conditions. Americans who are uninsured have health conditions that may not be diagnosed.

Interesting enough is the make up of those with pre-existing conditions. It isn’t dependent on wealth, it is dependent on health.

While the lowest-income Americans are slightly more likely to be affected by pre-existing conditions, more than two-thirds (69.8 percent) are middle-class and higher-income Americans. These are families with incomes above 200 percent of poverty, or more than $44,100 for a family of four in 2010.

Healthcare Profits $

Our image is one of having the best medical care in the world. In some ways this true, we have the best in technology, and skilled surgical doctors. That is a good thing that everyone should have access to.

Profits, profits and more profits seem to be changing the face of America’s health.

What will drive the profits is the volume of people that will have access to pharmaceuticals. This is not really quality care, it is the ability to serve over 57.2 million people the same without making a real change to the nation’s health.
