Healthcare Issues
Healthcare
The real healthcare issues are beginning to connect the average citizen with the dissonant voices in the wellness community, and are becoming the formidable voice that will keep the conversation going. The aura of the medical establishment has lost its glow. The authority and believability of the pharmaceutical run medical system has been transformed, understandably with the changing and currently struggling medical systems failure to perform.
Drug Use
The iconic branding of drug uses, has build a culture of a drug dependent society. The youth growing up in this atmosphere have oscillated between street drugs, and FDA approved pharmaceuticals. The ever growing use of consumer approved drugs for off and on label interventions has the wary consumer looking for efficacy without collateral damage. Taking responsibility for ones health, is to go to a primary care physician and ask for a prescription. Selective distribution of the pharmaceutical drugs is under attack, by the growing media ad campaigns aimed at defending the environment of self medication.
Ethics
The ethical values of both the pharmaceutical and medical community is coming under scrutiny. Medicine is a healing art that first and foremost does no harm. We are stuck in the middle as medicine makes great strides in technology, while declining in the ability to get people healthy. The suffering that is inflicted on the population is two fold, one the symptom can sometimes be relieved, without improving ones overall health, and two there is a significant price for this relief. As more Americans become disenchanted with how their healthcare is handled they will turn to dialog with the purpose of getting back to basics, while looking for a brighter future.
Direction
We are at a crossroad, and the direction we take will depend on dialog, knowledge, and innovation. The real healthcare issues are our increased dependence on pharmaceuticals, and the direction of standard treatment.
